Christians: Why do we have to pay for the sin of Adam and Eve?

In Catholic Belief, if you get baptized you get rid of the first sin. And Hell, in my opinion, is somewhere where people only go to if they like, kill billions of people and aren't sorry for it. But if they are, they don't. I still think that's wrong but God is forgiving. Maybe TOO forgiving...
