Guys advice please? Does this guy just see me as a friend or is he interested in me?

It seems that you both are a little confused. You cannot 'force' him to take you out. Want a date, what's wrong with asking him. Go or stay where you feel your life would be better, and not because of a person who may just consider you as a 'friend'.
