How do I know if I've been blocked?

I have a suspition, that one of my correspondents blocked me- he always appears off line to me, and never answer me anymore, but i know, he is on-line on the other sites. Would you tell me, how can i check, if i've been ignored or not? I thought, i should have received a notification like "you've been blocked" or so? Thank you !
