Why would a women feel unattrative by this?

From what I've read, you're not the weird one here. She is. What's so abnormal in offering sanctuary to animals in danger? I don't think she cares about animals, or the world for that matter. I suggest you let her be because this woman can't appreciate your interests. Good luck with your pelican. :)
